Our Research
Understanding geochemical and environmental processes at the molecular scale is the objective of most of the projects in the group.
Current research topics include:
- determining the role of defects in controlling the reactivity of pyrite and other related sulfide minerals
- evaluating the role of mineral catalysts in prebiotic chemistry, with an emphasis on dinitrogen reduction
- evaluating the interaction of organic compounds relevant in prebiotic synthesis with mineral surfaces
- determining the rates of gas transfer in hot springs
- use of Ferritin in remediation of pollutants
Our research is currently funded by:
- The National Science Foundation
- EPA-STAR
- NASA Exobiology Program
- NASA Astrobiology Institute
- Department of Education
- The State University of New York
